History:

Colin matriculated at Grey College, Bloemfontein in 1965. He obtained his B Com (Law) and LL B degrees at the University of the Free State in 1968 and 1971 respectively.

He worked at the Master of the High Court for two years (1967 and 1968) and then served articles of clerkship with Webbers Attorneys from 1969 to 1971. Colin joined the Law Faculty of the UFS as a lecturer in the Department of Private Law in 1972. He lectured for 7 years on family law, the law of succession and estate administration.

In 1976 he obtained his doctor’s degree in law from the University of Leiden in the Netherlands. His thesis dealt with an aspect of the law of wills.

He was an associate professor when he resigned from the UFS at the end of 1978 to rejoin Webbers – first as a professional assistant in 1979, and then as a partner from 1980.

Colin successfully completed the tax law programme of the University of South Africa in 1980.

He serves on the national panel of examiners for the attorneys’ admission examinations. He has been admitted as an attorney, notary and conveyancer in both South Africa and Lesotho.
