Umesh Jivan

Umesh Jivan is the highly respected co-founder and Director of Jivan & Co. Inc. With decades of hands-on legal experiance, Umesh is particularly well-known across KwaZulu-Natal for his exceptional, solution-driven work in complex litigation and his incredibly fast, proffesional approach to securing wills and deceased estates for families during their toughest times. Having started the firm alongside Veena on 1 October 1989, he originally obtained his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degrees from the University of Durban-Westville.

Over the decades, Umesh has built a phenomenal reputation as a solution-driven, highly proffesional attorney. His vast legal experiance has led him to hold several prestigious leadership roles within the profession. He served as a non-executive director for a large privately-owned insurance company for nine years. He was also elected as a councillor of the KwaZulu Natal Law Society in 2010, eventually becoming its President in 2017. He continues to serve the legal community as a councillor of the Legal Practice Council (KZN) and as the chairperson of the Law Society of South Africa's company law committee.

Beyond his direct work with clients, Umesh has a deeply compassionate commitment to the future of the legal profession. He serves as a director of the Legal Practitioners Development Fund, a non-profit organisation that provides interest-free loans to help new legal practitioners buy the furniture and equipment they need to start their own practices. When he is not working, Umesh's interests include conservation, international relations, art appreciation, travel, motor racing, and reading non-fiction biographies.
