Poovi’s journey to the law is uniquely grounded in hands-on environmental science. Holding an LLM in Environmental Law (UKZN), an LLB, and a BSc, his early career saw him working in water testing and quality assurance, before moving into municipal and geospatial development planning as a GIS Technician. He then spent over 18 years in the public sector at the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA).
During his extensive tenure at EDTEA, Poovi served as a designated Environmental Management Inspector (EMI) and an EAP, mastering the intricacies of EIAs, Air Emission Licences, and compliance enforcement. This insider knowledge of government processes allows him to offer his clients holistic, informed, and highly practical legal solutions. Today, he uses this wealth of experience to safeguard his clients' interests, holding authorities to account and advocating fiercely for the responsible, sustainable development of our beautiful coastline and country.
