Mona Appalsamy

With nearly twenty years of experience, Mona's core areas of expertise include customs & excise law and tax related matters. Having served at the South African Revenue Service (SARS), Mona's experience at SARS as a legal advisor included providing legal advice (including tariff and valuation) to SARS operations, drafting of legal opinions, counterfeit, representing SARS on various committees as well as providing training to internal stakeholders. Mona was also a litigation specialist at SARS attending to national litigation for disputes related to diversion, seized goods, clearing agent liability, liability of a licensee of a customs and excise warehouse, tariff and valuation.
