Schalk is a co-founder and co-owner at Pieterse Sellner Erasmus TRM Tax Attorneys, where he serves as Executive Chair. He is a committed advocate for taxpayers' rights and protection, with a particular interest in advancing legislative and policy reforms to create a more balanced and equitable tax environment. Under his leadership, a seasoned team of tax attorneys and professionals navigate complex tax disputes, often at the intersection of tax, administrative, and constitutional law.
As an accomplished Tax Attorney, Schalk specialises in tax controversy and regularly appears in both the Tax Court and High Court. He is currently pursuing a PhD in tax and constitutional law and is co-authoring a book on the Tax Administration Act alongside internationally recognised tax expert, Dr Daniel Erasmus. He also shares his expertise as a tax law lecturer at the Tax Law Academy, an affiliated and accredited educator.
Outside of practice, Schalk finds balance in his personal pursuits, which include golf, an ongoing attempt at running, and spending meaningful time with friends. Above all, he values time with his family - his wife, Landi, and their daughters, Amika and Anabelle.
Schalk's work is underpinned by a consistent focus on integrity, precision, and the principled development of tax law, with the promotion and protection of taxpayers' rights remaining central to both his personal ethos and the firm's broader ambitions.
