Fawzia Khan has been in practice in excess of 30 years. She has also been selected to participate in the judicial skills program to enable her to take up an appointment on the bench as a judge. Over the years of practice, Fawzia Khan has written a number of articles on a wide range of topics on various aspects of the law. Whilst a matter which is litigated would require a robust approach with colleagues, the other alternatives to dispute resolutions are also considered with the client.
Mediation, negotiation, and arbitration can also offer a client a viable and cost-effective resolution to a dispute. Fawzia trained as a mediator in February 2011 and provides mediation services on almost any dispute, with divorce mediation being her main area of focus. With her special training as a Mediator, she can facilitate discussions between the couple with a view to getting a Memorandum of Understanding signed.
Mediation is now compulsory in terms of the Children's Act and is also strongly recommended to be used by a couple who are going through a divorce as it saves legal costs and has tremendous benefits in restoring broken relationships between members of the family caught in the crossfire of the divorce.
