Region:
International (with South African ties)
Area:
London
History:
did a BCom (Law) and then an LLB at RAU. I then did my articles at Livingstone Crichton Attorneys in Johannesburg and after becoming admitted as an attorney in South Africa, I moved to London. I lived in London for 3 years and worked in the commercial property department of a major London law firm, Russell-Cooke Solicitors. While working for Russell-Cooke, I did the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test and am now qualified in the UK as well. While in London, I became a member of various networks and a committee member of the South African Business Club in London. I left London at the end of 2007 and came back to South Africa. I started working for Absa Bank Ltd in the Property Investment Division of their Commercial Property Finance Department of Absa Corporate & Business Bank. We put equity into property deals worth hundreds of millions and sometimes billions of rands. One of the reasons they hired me was because they were doing international work and I could advise them on both SA and English law. I recently resigned from Absa to start Brockwell-Watson Attorneys in South Africa and Global Property Lawyers Ltd in London.
