Rudi Stander

Rudi is a director in the Cape Town office and focuses on commercial crime, tax disputes and customs and excise work. He acts for individuals and companies who find themselves on the receiving end of SARS, regulators or prosecuting authorities, often in matters where civil and criminal processes overlap.

His practice includes defending SARS audits and investigations, understatement penalties and interest disputes, voluntary disclosures and High Court review and appeal proceedings. He also advises on customs and excise matters, including detention and seizure of goods, demands for duties and VAT and internal administrative appeals. In addition, he is involved in matters concerning allegations of fraud, corruption, tax evasion and other economic offences.

Rudi is known for being hands-on, direct and practical. He spends time understanding the client’s business and then builds a strategy that balances legal risk with commercial realities. He works with counsel, forensic practitioners and accountants where needed. But remains closely involved in every stage of the matter.
