History:

Mr Meaden entered full time legal practice back in Jan 1990 and has remained in legal practice
on an uninterrupted basis over the past 34 years. As a practising attorney, Mr Meaden has
acquired extensive legal experience covering a wide range of legal subjects relevant in the
conduct and operation of private commercially orientated legal practice.

Richard Meaden & Associates Inc. (RMA) has over the years attracted several commercial clients,
to the extent that the firm enjoys a ratio of some 75% of its clients being of corporate character.
Approximately 70% of Mr Meaden’s professional work falls within the scope of commercial and
related litigation and is conducted throughout the Republic of South Africa and in instances
internationally.

Being possessed of a maritime qualification and based in Johannesburg, extensive experience
has been acquired in dealing with containers, container consignments, importation of goods,
customs and excise legislation and process, counterfeit and cheap product importation, dumping
and logistics.

Mr Meaden has also devoted considerable professional time in acquiring insight and experience
in the realm of building construction and in dealing with related contractual and delictual claim
processes. This has culminated in his law firm establishing a comprehensive network of
independent professional consultants and which assist it in contending with substantial
construction matters.
Several substantial instructions received by this law firm entail the employment of legal counsel
and teams of independent consultants which Mr Meaden oversees and coordinates.

At any given time, RMA is interacting with or litigating against one of South Africa’s 7 largest law
firms.

As the managing director of Richard Meaden & Associates, Mr Meaden on a daily basis actively
participates in the administration of this practice and the training of younger professional and
administrative personnel. Mr Meaden makes a point of remaining abreast of all professional
matters which this law firm retains mandates on and adopts a policy of allocating specific
attendances to be undertaken by younger professional members as opposed to simply delegating
matters. This ensures a proper and continuous passing on of professional skill and experience to
younger professional members of this law firm as the mandates unfold and the timeous conduct
of the mandates at hand. This also avoids young inexperienced professional members
compromising mandates and getting into trouble. Proceeding as above also allows young
professionals to grow in confidence and find their strengths.

On social upliftment and beneficiation, RMA also expends substantial professional time in
rendering services on a pro bono basis and including in re matters referred by the Legal Practice
Council/ProBono.org and from private communities. Over the period 2018-2023, RMA expended
in the region of 900 confirmed professional hours in dealing with LPC referrals.
