Melissa joined Cullinan & Associates as a senior associate in September 2014. Melissa holds both a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Laws, which she achieved with distinction from Rhodes University. She is passionate about environmental law, and with a background in both science and law, she is well-placed to advise clients in this field.
Melissa completed her articles at Shepstone & Wylie in Durban, and has been practising in the environmental law field for over five years. She has extensive experience in environmental, clean energy and planning law, and has also spent some time on secondment to an international oil company, where she gained valuable insight into corporate operations. Melissa’s experience includes providing advice to individual and corporate clients in her fields of law, drafting and responding to appeals against environmental authorisations and waste licences, undertaking due diligence studies, identifying legal risks, conducting environmental legal compliance audits, drafting legal registers, assisting with litigious matters, and providing environmental law training. She has also assisted with drafting legal aspects of provincial waste management plans, and conducted research into the environmental laws in a number of African countries.
