Shafaath was admitted as an Attorney in November 1997 and commenced private practice under the name M.S. Shaik Attorneys where he specialised in Construction and Commercial Litigation, Civil Litigation, Insurance Law, Labour law,Municipal Law, Transport Law and Complex Family Law .

From March 2012 until May 2015 Shafaath worked as an acting Regional Court Magistrate at the Department of Justice where he adjudicated over Serious and Violent criminal cases. He has been recognised for his impartial and professional Judgments by his colleagues. He attended courses on Civil Adjudication in the Regional Court, Sexual Offences and Human Trafficking, Environmental Law and Organized Crime, Sexual Offences and Child Justice, offered by the South African Judicial Education Institute.

Shafaath also served as  Director of Commercial Litigation and Labour Law at prestigious law firms’ in Rosebank and Sandton.

Shafaath worked on Construction Law, Mining Law,Arbitrations, Commercial litigation, Enviromental Law Appeals, Tax Litigation, Insurance Litigation, Labour and Employment law, Municipal litigation, Insolvency Litigation and Litigation.

Academic Background

Shafaath obtained his B.Proc from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (formerly University of Natal – Durban) in 1995. He was duly admitted as an Attorney in November 1997.In 2005 Shafaath obtained his Right of Appearance in the High Court of South Africa. He is also a Commissioner of the Small Claims Court and an Assessor in the High Court of South Africa

Shafaath is a member of the Society of Construction Law for Africa.
