Matthew van der Want has been an attorney for 13 years. His current focus is on commercial law, mining law, the law governing the custody and adminsitration of securities under the Financial Markets Act, 2012, commercial drafting, administrative law and litigation. He is an excpert on South African mining law and was ranked as such in Chambers Global Guide 2014 and 2015.
He was formerly a partner at a large commecial law firm in Johannesburg, and left to start van der Want Attorneys at the beginning of 2014. He began his career in public interest law at the Wits Law Clinic, where he gained experience in family law, evictions and litigation.
Matthew also practices in family law matters and divorce and has assisted clients in the divorces, contact matters, the registration of parenting plan agreements, the acquisition of parental responsibilities and rights and relocations outside of South Africa.
