Our proven track record
Over the years we have consistently been involved in South Africa's highest profile deals. Our recent deals include:

• Acting for the Industrial & Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) in respect of its ZAR37 billion acquisition of 20% of Standard Bank. The deal is the largest foreign direct investment outside of China by a Chinese company and the largest foreign investment in South Africa;

• Acting for Bain Capital in their successful acquisition of Edgars Consolidated Stores Limited (valued at ZAR25 billion). This deal is the largest public to private transaction to date in the South African market;

• Acting for MTN Group Limited in its acquisition of the issued ordinary share capital of Investcom LLC at an approximate deal value of ZAR33 billion;

• Acting for Vodafone Group plc in its acquisition of the issued share capital of Venfin Limited, thereby effectively increasing its stake in Vodacom Group by 15% (valued at approximately ZAR21 billion);

• Acting for JP Morgan in its capacity as debt arranger to a consortium led by Actis in regard to the acquisition of Alexander Forbes Limited (valued at approximately ZAR7.7 billion);

• Acting for Anglo American on the unbundling and separate listing of Kumba Iron Ore and the transfer of a controlling interest in Kumba Resources to a BEE vehicle (approximately US$1.8 billion);

• Acting for Absa Group Limited in the acquisition by Barclays Bank plc of 60% of the issued ordinary share capital of Absa. This is the second largest foreign investment ever made into South Africa after the ICBC deal mentioned above; and

• Advising on the structuring and fund formation for Ethos Private Equity Funds I–V, Horizon Funds, Business Partners International Kenya Funds and Capitalworks Private Equity Fund.
