Alison was born in Pretoria and grew up in Umkomaas on the Natal South Coast. She attended Girls High School in Pietermaritzburg and Kingsway High School in Amanzimtoti.
Alison completed her B.Proc degree at Natal University in Pietermaritzburg, while serving articles of clerkship at James Becker & Power.
She was admitted as an Attorney and Conveyancer in 1982 and as a Notary Public in 1983.
In 1984 Alison established her own practice called Everitt & Tate and in 1989 the practice amalgamated with that of Mike Nolan.
She is a specialist Conveyancer with 25 years of experience in all aspects of conveyancing, more particularly transfers, bonds, servitudes, sectional title registers, real rights of extension and township registers.
Alison served as a member of the Council of the KwaZulu Natal Law Society during the period of 1999 to 2006 and was Vice-President of the Society from 2005 to 2006. She currently serves on the Property Law Committee of the KwaZulu Natal Law Society.
She is a Director of the Attorneys Insurance Indemnity Fund and is a member of the Remuneration Committee of the Attorneys Fidelity Fund.
Alison is married to Colin Jermy, and has two sons, Robert and Stephen. Her interests include playing bridge, reading, traveling, cinema, theatre and listening to music.
